The Black Turtle Dream (Walter Berry)

I am at a conference or something at the beach. I am at a Native American site and I look down at the dark waters and I reach down and pull out a wooden carved black turtle with Native American carvings on it. Cool! I will have the coolest memento from this experience. But I better check with the natives first. I show it to them and they immediately take it from me. I am a bit disappointed. They gather and start performing some sort of ceremony concerning the Black Turtle from the Sea. I ask the guy how much it is worth and he says $450. Well, cool. Would have been nice to have but I respect them and it seems very sacred to them. It’s in their tradition and very ancient.
So, we get in a van to leave. David or Geoff- probably Geoff is driving and I explain to him that I am fine with them having the Black Turtle from the Sea.
